If you love practicing the piano as much as I do, then you must be asking yourself at least one of these questions. What piano practice tips can I employ to maximize my time and efficiency on my own? How am I supposed to practice? Or even how can I track the progress I’ve been making throughout the month?

Well, the answer to the second and third questions is Pianu. This free site will help you learn how to play the piano and allow you to track your progress the whole time. Better yet, you can use the platform to master the skills to play any tune you love, from classical to pop hits

That said, this post is intended to answer the first question and provide piano practice tips you can employ to maximize your efficiency and not struggle the same way I did while starting out.

I started performing at small concerts before completing my online piano lessons, which means I had to come up with piano practice tips that would help me achieve as much as I can, in the shortest space of time, and as efficiently as possible.

So over the years, I crafted ways of learning that suit this philosophy, and those are the exact ones I will share with you today.

5 Piano Practice Tips You Should Employ

  1. Get organized

The first step of practicing how to play the piano efficiently is organizing yourself in a manner that will allow you to reap the maximum benefits from your efforts. Start by outlining your daily practice objectives, as this will help you focus on your most essential learning tasks and give you a feeling of accomplishment every time you complete each one.

  1. Start at a slow pace

I’ve come to learn that the slower and more pragmatic the approach, the better the results and the faster you will learn. So always assume you’re a total idiot and don’t take anything for granted.

Also, when you start learning a new piece, practice it under tempo until you’re familiar with every note. Remember, doing otherwise means you could end up practicing the piece incorrectly, and we all know how time-consuming and difficult it is to unlearn a piano mistake.

  1. Do not practice for too long

We’re all different and everyone has his/her limitations when it comes to concentration. Some individuals can concentrate longer than others, and it’s up to you to find your own limit and note when you realize your concentration is dipping. That’s the time stop, go for a walk, or simply take a break.

Personally, I’ve found that 50-60 minutes is an ideal length of time for every learning session.

  1. Analyze the piece away from the piano

Sometimes, you’ll realize that practicing away from a piano can yield more creative and beneficial results.

For instance, when you’re trying to learn the right amount of flexibility or tempo rubato in a certain piece, don’t work at the piano. Instead, try taping the beats on your knees and singing the melody beforehand.

As you can see, such piano practice tips will allow you to tackle musical issues without adding the challenges of learning the piano.

  1. Dissect and analyze every detail

I’m confident you’ve come across this tip before – train your hands separately and in small bits. Better yet, I would like you to always remember that you should employ this tip at all times, regardless of how far you are in the learning process.

This will especially hold true when you’re preparing to perform in public because it will serve as a perfect review of all the details you’ve been working on with our teacher.
